How does sedation dentistry work?
At Beach View Dental, Dr. Elenbaas prescribes you an oral sedative (in pill form) which you take before and/or at arrival of your appointment. You will be sedated to a level of calm, but you will be awake and able to respond to commands. Most patients don't feel any pain or discomfort whatsoever during their procedure or procedures and feel great when the sedative wears off.
Dr. Alexander is highly trained in intravenous conscious sedation which is similar to what you receive during a hospital outpatient visit. Once you "awake", you will have little or no knowledge of dental procedures awaking refreshed. This level of sedation is for patients with extremely high fear or anxiety. Whichever level of sedation you deem necessary, fear is no longer a reason not to come see us.
Please note, if you decide to receive any level of sedation during your visit, you will need someone to drive you to and from the office.
Can any general dentist perform sedation dentistry?
Only dentists who have undergone specialized training can perform sedation dentistry on you. Dr. Elenbaas has received specialized training so she can give you the very best care that sedation dentistry has to offer.
Is sedation dentistry safe?
